Case Study: Oil and Gas

Mature Fields Revitalization

Situation: Norwest was contracted to help unlock the field potential of a 70+year old naturally fractured oil field in Wyoming that was under-producing oil at a 98 percent water cut. 

Solution: Norwest gathered, analyzed, and integrated all field and well data using state-of-the-art software and hardware programs. Engineers and technicians were able to examine the field without the limitations of using old paradigms. Understanding the physics and elements that control 3D fluid flow in the reservoir was crucial in explaining the historical performance of the field and in helping to predict future field response.

Norwest conceptualized a strategic plan using a real-time look-back analysis of field activities to pin-point successful activities and to gradually discontinue those that generated poor returns.

Result: Acting on Norwest’s recommendations, the client was able to double and maintain the oil rate thereby raising the field’s value by tens of millions of dollars in less than two years.  The results were directly attributable to an improved use of existing wells and reservoir energy.
